Clinician using AI clinical documentation to reduce administrative burden and focus on patient care.

Reducing administrative burden. Reclaiming time for patient care.

Reducing Administrative Burden to Reclaim Clinical Time.

Healthcare systems across Australia continue to face increasing pressure from rising documentation demands, workforce shortages, and the need for faster, more coordinated care. In response, digital health innovation is playing a critical role in reshaping how clinical information is captured and shared.

At iMedX, we are focused on supporting solutions that reduce administrative workload for clinicians and enable more time to be spent directly with patients. We are pleased to see our Ambient AI Clinical Documentation capability, powered by DeliverHealth, being evaluated as part of a new clinical documentation trial led by the University of Melbourne in partnership with Grampians Health.

Advancing clinical documentation through Ambient AI

The trial is assessing iMedX’s Ambient AI Clinical Documentation solution within real-world clinical environments to better understand its impact on documentation efficiency, workflow optimisation, and communication across care teams.

A key focus of the evaluation is improving the speed and quality of clinical correspondence, supporting faster sharing of patient information with General Practitioners and other healthcare providers. This has the potential to strengthen continuity of care and improve overall system responsiveness.

More information on the trial can be found here: Note-taking AI trial underway to free up time for clinicians

Early insights and potential impact

While the trial is ongoing, early insights indicate strong potential benefits, including:

  • Reduced time spent on clinical documentation and note-taking
  • Faster preparation and distribution of patient correspondence
  • Improved timeliness of clinical decision-making
  • Enhanced continuity of care across providers
  • Support for clinicians working under sustained workforce pressure, particularly in regional settings

A structured, safety-led evaluation approach

The evaluation is being conducted through a structured and safety-focused framework. Clinicians are engaging with the solution through simulation-based assessment and a 12-week pilot program, aligned with Victorian Government digital health and clinical safety guidelines.

This approach ensures the technology is assessed rigorously before broader consideration for deployment, with patient safety and clinical governance at the centre of the process.

Supporting the future of clinical documentation in Australia

Collaborations between healthcare providers, academic institutions, and technology partners are essential to advancing practical, scalable digital health solutions. This trial represents an important example of how these partnerships can be used to explore the real-world value of emerging AI-enabled documentation tools.

iMedX is proud to contribute to initiatives that aim to reduce administrative burden and support clinicians in delivering high-quality, timely care. We look forward to the outcomes of the evaluation and how they may inform the future of clinical documentation across Australia.

Let’s continue the conversation

iMedX wins ‘Best Health Network Technology Implementation’ MedTech Breakthrough Award

iMedX Australia & New Zealand has been awarded Best Network Technology Implementation in the 2021 MedTech Breakthrough awards presented by MedTech Breakthrough, an independent market intelligence organisation that recognises top companies, technologies and products in the global health and medical technology market.

iMedX was recognised for our implementation of the iMedX transcription solution into Southern District Health Board, remotely and during the Covid lockdowns in New Zealand and Australia. The solution allowed for remote management in a six-week rapid deployment, without setting foot on hospital grounds. This meant typists could work remotely and afforded clinicians the flexibility to work from anywhere. Read more about the solution here.
